Our Story:
Rick S.M., the creative force behind Jolly Feelings Blog within the My Success Edge network, is a proud US citizen. Born in Jamaica, his early years were shaped in the idyllic parish of St. Andrew, where his grandmorning provided a caring home. In those formative years, he was confronted with a learning disorder, leading his teachers to classify him as a “Slow Learner.” However, as time flowed on, his heart became captivated by the pages of comic books and the stories within National Geographic magazines. These tales of far-off cultures and thrilling adventures ignited a burning passion within him, sparking a relentless determination to sharpen his reading skills.
His childhood community was nestled near the prestigious University of the West Indies. During this period, Rick actively participated in dance performances and even graced the stage in a play put on by university students and professors at the University Creative Arts Center. His involvement in these college events left an indelible mark on him, sowing the seeds of a dream – the dream of one day graduating from a university.
In 1986, Rick made the life-altering decision to immigrate to the United States. Here, he spotted and tenaciously seized the opportunity to pursue his high school diploma. His days were a relentless hustle, often working two jobs while dedicating his evenings to attending classes. Ultimately, his unwavering commitment bore fruit as he triumphed over the GED exam, earning the treasured High School Diploma. This accomplishment not only brought tears of joy to Rick’s eyes but also to all who knew of the hurdles he had overcome. For him, this achievement flung open doors of opportunity, enabling him to enroll in community college. Over time, he conquered the challenges of higher education, proudly walking across the stage at Florida Memorial University with honors.
Today, Rick holds a master’s degree in education, cherishing the belief that no one should be denied the chance to improve their lives, regardless of their circumstances. His journey is a testament to the transformative power of determination, resilience, and unwavering belief in one’s dreams.
